The Torch Commando

Sailor, pages 37 and 38

13-s-pages-37-38

Excerpt:

“In 1947, Sailor Malan joined the so-called Torch Commando.                                                                 This organization consisted of white, ex-servicemen and                                                                   veterans of the Second World War. Malan eventually became                                                                       its president. The Torch Commando’s chief aim was to oppose                                                                    the implementation of Apartheid. As a result of this,                                                                                 Sailor Malan became a social outcast amongst his fellow-Afrikaners.”
